DIY of the Day: What do you do if you’re a surfer who is dissatisfied with the waves being naturally produced by the ocean? Well, if you’re anything like Stephan Figueiredo, Dennis Tihara, Gabriel Pastori, Diego Silva and Felipe Cesarano, you hook that sucker up to the Waimea River, and build yourself a makeshift wave pool.
To cancel out complaints over the mixing and matching of water, a YouTuber left this comment:
Ok before any one rants again, the water is coming from a stream near the beach that backs up with water every year. The nature of the waves coming in causes the sand to become a natural damn. The people in the video simply linked the backed up stream to the ocean. The little rapids they make only last for an hour and the beach sand recovers in no time at all.
I saw a video two years ago of the same surfing DIY at Waimea! Still as awesome as ever!
